Beaujolais : des vendanges qui vont débuter de manière très précoce
Le Beaujolais s’apprête à lancer ses vendanges, le 20 août pour les Beaujolais rouges et rosés et à partir du 22 août pour les Beaujolais blancs, en fonction du choix du vigneron bien sûr et de l’apogée de maturité. C’est le 2e millésime le plus précoce en Beaujolais après le 2003.

Champagnemakers beperken druivenoogst in de hoop op een hogere prijs
Champagne wordt duurder, als het aan de wijnmakers van de beroemde Franse streek ligt: ze gaan de druivenoogst van dit jaar beperken in de hoop dat de prijs stijgt. Door de coronacrisis daalde de vraag naar champagne tot nu toe met bijna een derde, wat neerkomt op ongeveer 1,7 miljard euro. Door te mikken op een hogere prijs, hopen ze de verliezen enigszins goed te maken.

2020 Muscadet harvest officially starts tomorrow
The 2020 Muscadet harvest officially starts tomorrow. The start is very early but not, however, the earliest in recent times as the official start in 2003 was 19th August, the 24th in 2011 and 25th in 1989.

PGI wines seem to tick all the boxes for today’s consumers, offering light whites and rosés, affordable pricing, many boxed wine formats and private labels, and because of this have held their ground in this unprecedented era of uncertainty. “The last marketing season went well, with a 2% volume and value increase in bulk trade”, sums up Gérard Bancillon, chairman of the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI wines) federation. His overall assessment of lockdown is positive: “We have held onto our markets and even made progress. Over the period, our good fortune was that many PGI wines are listed in supermarkets and generate high-volume sales”. This gives them an undeniable edge considering the widespread challenges in the hospitality industry and export markets, where PGI wines dropped 5 % in volume during the marketing campaign.
