Bordeaux’s leading co-operative winery, Tutiac, is outlawing use of plant protection products classified as carcinogenic, mutagenic and reprotoxic (CMR) as of the 2019 growing season over 4,200 hectares of vines. “There is no choice, it's an obligation!” claims the co-op’s chairman Stéphane Héraud. He has brushed off criticisms he may have heard from vine growers and believes that the co-operative is “simply getting a few years’ head start, before it becomes the norm”.
