Pantone uses its colour chart to promote Bordeaux rosés
Well-known for its numerical colour system, the American company Pantone, based in Carlstadt, New Jersey, has just signed a co-operation agreement with the Bordeaux wine company Famille Bouey, based in Ambarès, Gironde. Called ‘Colors’, the range of rosé wines involved in this unprecedented partnership, comes in two numbers: Colors 721, single varietal Merlot AOP Bordeaux, and Colors 719, single varietal Grenache IGP Méditerranée. Presented in hallmark Provencal bottles and colours, the wines aim to be innovative both in form and content.

Clos du Temple: the world’s priciest rosé’s official launch
Gérard Bertand’s Clos du Temple has asked questions of the fine wine world ever since it was launched two years ago. The wine is a barrel-aged rosé (from a blend of grapes) from the South of France that costs over £190 a bottle. Quite apart from whether this specific wine is worth the price, Clos du Temple has put the spotlight on rosé as a wine category in its entirety, and asked whether rosé can ever be considered as a serious, fine wine in the same category, say, as the fine white wines of Burgundy? To launch the new 2020 vintage, only the third, Gérard Bertrand invited a select few to taste all three vintages of the wine in the newly-built Clos du Temple winery. It seemed only fitting that Elizabeth Gabay MW, one of the world’s leading experts on rosé should cover the event for The Buyer.

Geinig dat het bij rosé het er altijd over gaat of de wijn de prijs wel waard is.
Een flesje Bordeaux van 2000+ euro vinden we “normaal” maar rosé mag niet meer dan 3,95 kosten.

To exemplify the near-mystical aspect of his Clos du Temple rosé in the Languedoc appellation of Cabrières, the head of the region’s namesake group has built a winery in the heart of this 12-hectare walled vineyard which is more akin to a temple than to conventional winemaking facilities.

Ott, wat een mooie wijn. Ik heb wat maanden geleden een 10 of 11 jaar oude Ott gedronken. Stuiterend mooi. Heb jij de By Ott al gedronken? Is hier en daar in de aanbieding. Hanos heeft de wijn. Minder dan 2 tientjes.

His statement came as he laid out future plans for his tenure at the organisation’s AGM on December 2 in La Celle. In ten years, the average price of Provence rosés on the bulk market has doubled, reaching €280 /hl during the last marketing campaign. Over the same period, exports have become the main outlet for Provence rosés, accounting for 40% of sales volumes. The share of super/hypermarkets, which stood at 44% of sales ten years ago, dropped to 27% in 2020. At the same time, markets have become more demanding. “Wines whose quality is not up to standard no longer find takers”, stressed CIVP director Brice Eymard.

Niets mis mee om een, betere, rosé te laten ouderen.
Ik drink Tempier ook ouder en die zijn vaak beter dan de jonge varianten.
