Consider Burgundy’s Côte Chalonnaise For Wine Values

Due to its small geographical size and heightened international prominence during the past two decades, many wines produced within France’s eastern-central region of Burgundy remain too pricey for quotidian quaffing by most consumers.

The battle to get Pouilly-Fuissé Premier Cru recognition

The battle to get Pouilly-Fuissé Premier Cru recognition

The wines of Pouilly and Fuissé have long been recognised as “first class,” in fact at the start of the Nineteenth Century scholars put the wines on a par with other great wine regions like Meursault and Montrachet. But the Mâconnais is still the only region in Burgundy that does not have vineyard hierarchy. Before lockdown LM Archer travelled to the region to find out how the thirteen-year application for Premier Cru status was progressing for a number of climats, a process that has been temporarily closed down because of the virus.

Burgundy is “the French wine region apparently suffering the least”

Burgundy is “the French wine region apparently suffering the least”

If comments by the chairman of the Burgundy wine marketing board (BIVcool smiley, Louis-Fabrice Latour, are anything to go by, Burgundy's wine industry is “not faring too badly” so far. In fact, it is even “the wine region that is apparently suffering the least”, compared in particular to Alsace, Bordeaux and Champagne. The figures were presented at the board’s AGM on Monday 29 June 2020. Exports held up relatively well during the health crisis, with a fall in value of 8 % in April and 12 % in May. France as a whole witnessed a drop in business of around -25 to -30%. “We should end the year with values down by 15 or -20%”, said Latour.
