As we are beginning to see – and I anticipated – the highly heterogeneous reds of the 2021 Bordeaux vintage are already dividing opinion. However their white counterparts are not. These are truly excellent and, in many cases, exceptional and unique wines – and they are widely seen and duly celebrated as such.

Eleanor of Aquitaine: Rebel Queen of the Middle Ages
The following is a speech I gave at Kensington Palace in May 2022, during an evening hosted by Château d’Issan celebrating 870th anniversary of the wedding, held in Poitiers Cathedral in 1152, between Eleonor of Aquitaine and Henry, Duke of Normandy at the time of their marriage, soon after crowned King Henry II of England. It has long been believed that Château d’Issan (or wine from the Seigneuries de Cantenac, Lamothe-Cantenac, as it was then known) was served at the wedding. A recent discovery by Emmanuel Cruse of a 1242 wine sale from these lands to the English crown adds credence to the story.

The board of the Médoc, Haut-Médoc and Listrac appellations met on 5 July to approve plans to recognise a Médoc appellation for white wines in a region known for its reds. The project is not so much a newly-minted idea as a return to the past, claims Claude Gaudin, chairman of the producers’ organisation: “There was a time when the Médoc produced significant volumes of white wine (dry and even sweet). It fell into oblivion with the demise of white AOC Médoc” and wineries could only use the white Bordeaux appellation.

Notre parcours d’orientation, quiz sur le vin & dégustations fait peau neuve.
Sur la forme seulement, le jeu est tellement sympa qu’il est hors de question de modifier son contenu !
La présentation se met davantage au goût du vin : les bornes à chercher dans les vignes et le parc des Châteaux deviennent des verres à pied, la carte pour se repérer et se déplacer s’illustre de bouteilles de vin – vin de bordeaux SVP ! – et nous aménageons des supports de jeux sur le parcours. L’aventure continue
