What is a “Super Tuscan” and where did the term come from? The answer might surprise you.
The more closely you look at a word, wrote the early 20th-century aphorist and poet Karl Kraus, the more distantly it looks back at you.
This couldn’t be more true when it comes to the meaning and origin of the expression “Super Tuscan.”

The two reds (Cinsaut and Vaccarese) are sitting quietly in the cellar after our decision this spring to bottle this first vintage on its own. But as we get ready to pick the 2020

Overstating terroir: the effacing of the vigneron
Unlike most other agricultural products, bar the most niche of fruit and vegetable, a wine’s origin, in some cases down to a single acre of land, is touted as a semi-mystical source of quality. Although lacking an exact definition, Jancis Robinson notes terroir to be a vines ‘total natural growing environment‘.

Assessing Structure
Structure in wine is important--really important. By structure I mean the levels of alcohol, acidity, phenolic bitterness (white wines), and tannin (red wines). Personally, I think a wine’s structure is its very bones. It also speaks to grape variety, place of origin, climate, timing of harvest, winemaking techniques, and so much more.

Dan Berger On Wine: Delight in the details
The more I know about wine, the more I realize how astoundingly complex it is — and how much more I need to know.
I’ve made an informal 50-year study of dozens of wine topics. I know the basics of organoleptics, chemistry, vines, soils, varietal distinction, fermentation science, and perhaps most important of all, winery sanitation.

Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Cork Taint
Ever sit down, pour yourself a glass of wine and have it smell reminiscent of a wet newspaper or moldy basement? Or swirled a glass of wine and noticed it smelled muted, or like nothing at all? If so, chances are your wine was cork tainted, or more commonly, “corked.”

These wines are far too sexual
Wine has become very horny. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but every bottle of red you see on shelves lately is called something like “Fornication” or “Sensual Eagle.” The labels themselves are soft-core porno, usually featuring excited imagery like a woman whispering into a man’s ear or a bunch of cupids planning an orgy. It’s honestly surprising that this wine
